Dr. John Carlos is an American Olympian and civil rights activist best known for his iconic Black Power salute at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, where he raised his fist on the medal podium to protest racial injustice. Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Carlos has dedicated his life to activism, advocating for social justice and equality. He recently participated as a special guest in a Black History Month celebration at Toronto Metropolitan University, sharing his experiences and encouraging young people to engage in activism.
