Tikhon Shevkunov
Tikhon Shevkunov, known as Metropolitan Tikhon, is a prominent Russian Orthodox bishop, currently serving as the Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea. Born in 1963, he has held various influential positions within the Russian Orthodox Church, including being the abbot of the Sretensky Monastery in Moscow for many years. Tikhon is often associated with the Kremlin and has been referred to as a spiritual advisor to President Vladimir Putin, although both the Kremlin and Tikhon himself have downplayed this connection. He has been recognized for his efforts in religious and cultural projects, including the restoration of historical sites in Crimea. Tikhon was recently in the news after the FSB thwarted an assassination plot against him, allegedly orchestrated by Ukrainian military intelligence.
