Laurent Vinatier
Laurent Vinatier is a French scientist who has been sentenced to three years in a Russian penal colony after being convicted of violating the country's foreign agent law. He was working for a Swiss non-governmental organization focused on humanitarian dialogue when he was arrested by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in June 2024. Vinatier admitted to the charges in court, claiming his activities were in the interest of peace and stating he was unaware of the requirement to register as a foreign agent.
