Kilmar Abrego Garcia
Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran man who was wrongfully deported from the United States in March 2020 despite having lived legally in Maryland with his American wife and daughter. He had previously been accused of ties to the MS-13 gang, a charge he denied and for which he was never convicted. In 2019, U.S. courts recognized that his return to El Salvador would put him at risk of persecution and torture, allowing him to live freely in the U.S. until his deportation, which was later admitted to be a mistake by ICE officials.
