
Assata Shakur
Assata Shakur is a former member of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army, who gained international attention after being convicted of murder in the 1970s in connection with a police shootout. After escaping from prison, she sought asylum in Cuba, where she has lived since the 1980s. Shakur remains a controversial figure, viewed by some as a freedom fighter and by others as a fugitive.
