Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva, commonly known as Lula, is a Brazilian politician and former union leader who served as the 35th President of Brazil from 2003 to 2010. He is a founding member of the Workers' Party (PT) and is known for his social programs that helped lift millions of Brazilians out of poverty during his presidency. After leaving office, Lula faced legal challenges, including corruption charges which led to his imprisonment in 2018. However, his convictions were annulled in 2021, allowing him to return to politics. Lula was re-elected as President in 2022, defeating Jair Bolsonaro, and has since been a prominent figure in Brazilian and international politics, advocating for social justice and environmental issues.
